It was a tough decision but one we had no trouble finally agreeing on: NYC Ciao Bella Ice Cream takes the prize from us, as gelato genius Chef Danilo Zecchin is constantly creating the most inventive, festive non GMO sorbettos and gelatos in the American marketplace.
They were on display at the recent 35th annual Natural Products Expo West, the world’s largest natural, organic and healthy products event at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.
The enormous event is our annual mecca to find and try the best in healthy foods, and discover new ingredients, packaging, technologies, equipment, and services for cutting-edge products, and Ciao Bella is one brand worth your time to investigate.
Ciao Bella’s Sorbettos include Wild Italian Strawberry Limonata made with real wild strawberries (pictured above) and Sicilian Limone, plus they have Coconut, Alphonso Mango, Pacific Northwest Raspberry, Dark Cocoa, Marion Blackberry Cabernet, Sicilian Blood Orange, Bartlett Pear Hibiscus, White Peach Sangria and newcomer Blueberry Passion Fruit.
Gelatos include Madagascar Vanilla, South American Dark Chocolate, Sicilian Pistachio, Caffé Macchiato, Alba Hazelnut Caffè, Brown Sugar Caramel and newcomers Chocolate Mascarpone, Alba Hazelnut Dark Chocolate, Sea Salt Caramel and Bourbon Caramel Chocolate
Established in 1983, Ciao Bella Gelato began creating authentic gelato and sorbetto in a small gelateria with Chef Danilo in New York City’s Little Italy, a neighborhood rooted in flavor and an unwavering love for delicious food.
Committed to hand selecting the finest quality ingredients like Sicilian lemons, Valrhona chocolate (also a Natural Products Expo West 2015 exhibitor!) Louisiana brown sugar pralines and crafting them into today’s best flavor interpretations, Danilo’s Ciao Bella premium products are constantly inspired by Mediterranean and American culture, fresh ethically sources ingredients and regional cuisines.
Eh, what’s not to love? The line is 100% natural rBST hormone free dairy, non-GMO project verified sorbettos and gelatos which are all made with Fair Trade cocoa and ethically sourced ingredients. Chef Danilo and his Ciao Bella partner even penned a book for novices to try their hand at homemade treats.
These “feistier” wild Italian strawberries have a sweet intense flavor that pairs refreshing strawberry and Sicilian lemons for a twist on lemonade for a hot summer day. Ciao Bella combines these adorable bitty berries with Sicilian lemons to create a true Ciao Bella original. Sweet, tart, and bursting with fresh flavor – so good.
Binge worthy. Bourbon and caramel were made to pair. Adding dense rich chocolate is insanity. Dark, deluxe, and dangerously delicious – their Bourbon Caramel Chocolate is a smoky, luxurious update to a classic French caramel. Not too sweet, complex and brilliant pairings.
